Top estate attorney advises women guard their wealth as their economic power increases.
One in five women are making more money than their husbands, says a Pew Research Center report which examined the changing dynamics of education, economics and marriage. As women have become more educated, and as men have suffered more job loss in the poor economy, the rate of economic growth has demonstrated “unequal gains,” says the report. What does this mean for women today? Estate planning attorney Shari Levitan, partner at Bostom-based law firm Holland & Knight, LLP, says that because women have not traditionally been the breadwinners, many are now seeking ways to become more aware of the money issues about which men have traditionally been more informed.
